The Atom Unit I: Atomic Structure and Patterns February 15, 2019
4
Objective Students will know the basic unit of matter by taking notes on the atom, watching a video on atoms, building an atom and developing rules for the formation of atoms. Mastery Level: 75% or better
5
Engage Students brainstorm on scratch paper/Post-it notes what they have heard about the atom, or “atomic” things. Share what they know with a partner and/or the class.
6
Explore Students will watch “Just How Small is an Atom?”
Source: Nn0I Students watch the video Just how small is an atom (TED-Ed- 5:27) and respond to corresponding Video questions – Just how small is an atom.
7
Explain Students will create atoms (on their phones or on my computer) using Source: an-atom Students will work in groups of 2-3 people to complete the phet simulation worksheet
