2009 P&P Manual Changes Points of Emphasis All coaches need to be enrolled in order to take over in the event the head coach is disqualified. If there are no other enrolled coaches available to take over, the game is forfeited.

CLARIFICATION ON LIBERO TRACKER: *Regular Season Libero Tracking: The home team will provide an official scorer and Libero tracker to track the Libero players for both teams at all regular season games. *Tournament Libero Tracking: The NHIAA will provide an official scorer and Libero tracker for all semifinal and final rounds of the volleyball tournament. For the preliminary and quarterfinal rounds, the higher seeded team will provide an official scorer and Libero tracker to track the Libero player for both teams. *Note: If in the event the home team cannot provide a Libero tracker the visiting team may provide a Libero tracker for the match. All tournaments, jamborees, festivals and similar competition in volleyball must be sanctioned by the Volleyball Committee of the NHIAA. All such contests sanctioned by the Committee shall not count on the regular season's record for tournament consideration. No school may enter more than one approved Columbus Day tournament. TOURNAMENT MATCH START TIMES: Tournament match times will NOT be altered unless the first match runs into the start time of the second match. P&P CHANGES CONTINUED:

When the score of a sub-varsity match is 2-0 there will be no coin toss by the official prior to the third game. The teams will return directly to their *home bench and will prepare for the third game. Service will go to the team that has lost the previous two games. Rationale – No need to delay with a coin toss and it allows the winning team a chance to celebrate their victory, currently they are remanded to the end-line while team captains meet with the referee. It also will save some time in the overall match. (*teams will switch benches) P&P CHANGES CONTINUED:

PRE-GAME ATTIRE (COVERS ANYONE PARTICIPATING IN PLAYABLE AREA) SHALL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING: a. Proper footwear (i.e. sneakers). No sandals, shoes, boots or bare feet are allowed. b. Jewelry and Body Piercing Rule shall be in effect.

P&P CHANGES CONTINUED: Boys Volleyball will move to the Spring for the 2010-11 Season.

P&P CHANGES CONTINUED: During a regular season game the match will be stopped (i.e. 500 kills, 1000 assists, etc) the team will not be charged a timeout. Teams will report to the bench areas for a brief ceremony and then return to the court. Post season matches will not be stopped.

PREMATCH..COACH & CAPTAINS Introductions… Designate/ask.. Floor captain?? Establish the parameters of the playable area, identify the court lines, overhead obstructions Coaches..are all players legally attired? Sportsmanship.. Any acts of unsporting conduct will not be tolerated. Ball retrieval yes/no, if no- roll ball under net Ask if Libero is being used Early season reminder about new procedures (substitution, coachs box, 5th game, etc.)

SPORTSMANSHIP TO BE EMPHASIZED UNSPORTING BEHAVIOR INCLUDES ACTS OF DECEIT, DISRESPECT OR VULGARITY AND INCLUDES TAUNTING. NO PLAYER, COACH OR TEAM ATTENDANT SHALL ACT IN AN UNSPORTING MANNER WHILE ON OR NEAR THE COURT BEFORE, DURING OR BETWEEN GAMES. OFFICIALS MUST ADDRESS SPORTSMANSHIP AND EXPECTED BEHAVIOR IN THE PRE-MATCH CONFERENCE.

LINE UPS CARDS SUBMITTED The first server should always be listed first on the lineup sheet, regardless of whether the team is serving or receiving. The R2 must identify the serving and receiving teams when transferring this information to their lineup card to then verify the teams proper lineup by floor position prior to the start of each game.

No Glitter Or Body Paints PLAYERS MAY NOT WEAR GLITTER OR BODY PAINT ON THEIR HAIR, FACE, UNIFORM OR BODY. OFFICIALS CAN NOT FORCE A PLAYER TO REMOVE SUCH MARKINGS HOWEVER, YOU CAN RESTRICT THEIR ENTRY INTO THE CONTEST.

Risk Minimization During Warm-ups During a team warm-up period all personnel actively conducting the warm-up activities should be properly attired for the duties required. Special attention should be given to make sure that auxiliary personnel are wearing appropriate footwear for active participation and electronics such as music devices and cell phones are not being used.

Head Coaches Conduct Rule 12-2-6 Head Coaches Standing Live ball play - the head coach may stand in libero replacement zone, minimum 6 feet from sideline to coach his/her players Dead ball - the head coach may stand at any location in the libero replacement zone –When the first referee extends arm in preparation to whistle and signal for serve, the head coach shall either move back at least 6 feet from sideline within the replacement zone or be seated.

Head Coaches Conduct Rule 12-2-6 Head Coaches Standing Time-out - the head coach may stand at any location in the bench area and could stand on the court with the team –When the time out is completed, the head coach must return to his/her seat or the replacement zone 6 feet back from sideline Head coach must be in proper location when R1 extends arm in preparation to whistle/signal serve Head coach shall lose the privilege to stand the remainder of the match, except as provided in 12-2-5, if he/she, assistant coach or any bench personnel receives a card

Multiple Substitutions 10-2-3 If more than one substitution is to occur, the substitutions shall be made in succession. One pair of players after another and only one substitute shall be in the substitution zone at a time.

REVIEW COACHES STANDING If the R2 cannot observe play and/or have clear line of sight with the line judge, the coach may be directed to alter his/her position and should do so at the R2s request. The head coach is now more visible and as such, should remember the emphasis placed on conduct and being a positive role model for athletes, school and community. Coaches must follow the directives of the referees should the physical layout of the facilities not permit six feet or more of unobstructed area around the court.
