Aim: How do the rights protected in the Bill of Rights apply to the experiences of people accused of crimes in the United States? Do Now: What’s one right citizens have in the US that you see dramatized on TV or in the movies?

If you are arrested for yelling “Fire
If you are arrested for yelling “Fire!” in a crowded movie theater, is your right to freedom of speech being violated? NO – since your actions may cause a panic where people may get injured. If a school principal searches your book bag without a search warrant, is that a violation of your 4th Amendment rights? NO, if the principal has a reasonable suspicion that school safety is at issue.
