1 Ancient China Objective: I will determine how geographic factors,
farming methods, division of labor, and domestication of animals influenced groups of people to develop into the ancient civilization of China.

2 China’s Geography Location
The Huang He River (Yellow River) stretches from Mongolia in to the Pacific Ocean. The Yangtze River flows through Central China. Both rivers would flood causing a lot of death and destruction, but they also left behind rich soil for farming.

3 China’s Geography Location
China is protected in the southwest by the Himalaya Mountains, and the Altun mountains in the west. China is protected by the Gobi Desert in the north.

6 Region - Climate The climate in ancient China includes seasons similar to those in North America. China also has four distinct seasons; Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. The land in ancient China consists of forests, hills, mountains, deserts, and a variety of plant life.

7 Place - Religion Believed appointed rulers were gods.
Mandate of Heaven Based on four principles: The right to rule is granted by Heaven. There is only one Heaven therefore there can be only one ruler. The right to rule is based on the virtue of the ruler. The right to rule is not limited to one dynasty.

8 Place - Confucianism Confucius Born in China about 2,500 years ago.
Teacher and thinker Developed system of ethics. Taught people how to behave and how to get along. Stressed need of family and state. Philosophy called Confucianism.

9 Place - Government Dynasties- a succession of rulers in the same family. Rule was passed down from father to son. Dynasties lasted for hundreds of years. Dynasties Xia (Hsia)        Shang Chou (Zhou)          Late Chou Ch'in (Qin) Han T'ang

10 Human Environment Interaction
Great Wall Built over 2,000 years ago by Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China. About 3,00 miles long. Built as a form of defense from nomadic groups and invaders. Silk Worms Silk thread from cocoons. Trade of silk cloth. Silk Road
