4 Common vs. Proper Nouns - A proper noun names a specific person, place, thing, or idea. It always begins with a capital letter (Example: Fenway Park). - A common noun does not name a specific person, place, thing or idea. It only begins with a capital letter when it is at the beginning of a sentence (Example: ballpark).

7 Action verbs can help you find nouns too!
A NOUN will usually come before an action verb in a sentence! The boy looked down the street. The Patriot’s quarterback, Tom Brady, threw a touchdown pass.

8 Common Proper Singular Possessive Plural Possessive Concrete Abstract
The dog’s bone is large. Plural Possessive The dogs’ fire hydrant is red.

9 Idea Nouns Can you be “filled with” . . . dog? NO!
Can you be “filled with” joy? YES!! Some “idea” noun suffix hints (Remember “filled with”) include: -ty (honesty, loyalty ) -tude (attitude, gratitude. . . ) -ment (amazement, amusement ) -ness (happiness, sadness . . .) -tion (trepidation, emotion . . .)

10 Concrete Nouns & Abstract Nouns
Concrete nouns are things you can “sense.” The dog jumped over the fence. Abstract nouns are ideas or concepts. She has the freedom to do as she likes.
