Essential Question What are conductors and insulators? Hypothesis: A:
3
Testing Conductors and Insulators
Read all procedures before starting!! (1-5) What is the purpose of our lab? Make a hypothesis: What types of objects will be conductors? What makes them conductors? What types of objects will be insulators? What makes them insulators?

Testing Conductors and Insulators
Test Object Appearance Lights the bulb Bends without breaking Wire Nail Graphite Cardboard Paperclip
5
Lab Conclusions 1.)Why is copper a good choice for connecting parts of an electrical device? 2.)What types of material were able to conduct electricity? 3.) In what other way could you have graphically represented the data you collected?
6
Conductors Charges move easier in some matter than other….why?
Conductors are materials through which NEGATIVE charges can move easily. EX: Metals Negative charges are pushed through. –simulate with students Copper is the most common conductor
7
Insulators Material that resists the flow of electricity Ex: nonmetals
Allows us to handle and contain electricity
8
Essential Question What are conductors and insulators? A:
9
Vocabulary Conductor: a material through which heat and electricity flow easily. Insulator: a material that slows the flow of heat and electricity.
