Definition Based on their degree of economic development we can distinguish three geoeconomic areas in the world: developed, emerging and developing areas.

Developed areas: the Triad
North America, Europe and Japan Little significance of agrarian activities. Highly advanced industry. High level of consumption These countries lead the global trade.

Emerging countries Two types:
Historically underdeveloped with rapid economic growth: Production based industry offshoring Growing domestic consumption Important exports of technology (also high-tech) Others have grown thanks to abundant natural resources. Social inequalities remain. Historical economic powers or with important economic role in their region.

Developing/underdeveloped areas
Some countries in Latin America, Asia and specially sub-Saharan Africa. Production based in traditional agrarian activities. Industry and consumption are very limited. Some of them have abundant natural resources exploited by multinational companies.
