1. For each entry, write the date on the LEFT side of the paper. 2. Create a T-Chart. Label the left side side “Text” and the right side “Reflections.” 3. On the left side, copy down a piece of text. Put this text in quotes (“ ”). After the text, give the page number (or abbreviated date of the diary entry). 4. On the corresponding right side, reflect on this piece of text by a) asking a question and providing a possible answer (guess), b) making a prediction about what will happen, and explaining why you made this prediction, c) connecting the text to another text, your own experience, or the world, then explaining why you made this connection, d) making an inference and explaining it fully (“I think ____ because ____”). e) explaining why this piece of text is important to the whole book/article. 5. Separate entries by drawing a line between them.

“Lies is more friendly with another girl, and Sanne goes to a different school, where she has made new friends.”
Why are Anne and Lies not good friends anymore? Perhaps they had a fight? Or maybe they just grew apart, as young girls often do.
“…my bicycle was stolen in the Easter holidays and Daddy has given Mummy’s to a Christian family for safekeeping.”
I predict that Anne’s family will go into hiding because they are giving stuff away for “safekeeping.” This makes me think they are preparing for something, that they are afraid their stuff will be taken by the Nazis.
“Perhaps I lack confidence…”
“…I chatter so much.”
Why does Anne talk so much if she thinks she lacks confidence? Aren’t people who talk a lot usually confident? Maybe Anne covers up her insecurity by talking a lot.
