2 LAW III - Number of Players (1997) (1) A match shall be played by two teams, each consisting of not more than eleven players, one of whom shall be the goalkeeper. A match may not start if either team consists of fewer than seven players.

3 GAME SCENARIO A During play, the goalkeeper for the Red team, who is angry and frustrated with his teammates and coach, storms out of the game and off the field and completely leaves the area. What should the referee do?

4 GAME SCENARIO A - #1 a)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, it also has control of the ball and is mounting an attack near the Blue teams Penalty Area. b)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, the Blue team has gained control of the ball and is beginning a counterattack near midfield.

5 GAME SCENARIO A - #2 b)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, the Blue team has gained control of the ball and is beginning a counterattack near midfield. c)While the Blue team begins its attack, Red #15, a substitute on the bench, runs onto the field and into the game, bringing the Red team up to 11 players, but still without a GK.

7 GAME SCENARIO A - #4 c)While the Blue team begins its attack, Red #15, a substitute on the bench, runs onto the field and into the game, bringing the Red team up to 11 players, but still without a GK. e)Blue #22 takes a hard shot on goal, which is handled by Red #15 thus preventing a sure goal.

8 GAME SCENARIO A - #5 b)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, the Blue team has gained control of the ball and is beginning a counterattack near midfield. f)While the Blue team begins its attack, the Red coach gives Red #7, who is a substitute on the bench, a goalkeepers jersey and pushes him onto the field and into the game, thus bringing the Red team up to 11 players and with an apparent GK.

10 GAME SCENARIO A - #7 b)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, the Blue team has gained control of the ball and is beginning a counterattack near midfield. h)While the Blue team begins its attack, the Red coach gives Red #18, who is a one of the 10 remaining players on the field, a GKs jersey, which he puts on over his shirt.

11 GAME SCENARIO A - #8 h)While the Blue team begins its attack, the Red coach gives Red #18, who is a one of the 10 remaining players on the field, a GKs jersey, which he puts on over his shirt. i)Blue #22 takes a hard shot on goal, which is caught by Red #18, thus preventing a sure goal.

12 GAME SCENARIO B During play, the GK (D25) for the Red team, who is angry and frustrated with his teammates and coach, storms out of the game and off the field and sits in the stands behind the benches. What should the referee do?

13 GAME SCENARIO B - #2 b)While the Red team is now playing short- handed and without a GK, the Blue team in its own defensive end gains control of the ball and begins a quick counterattack. c) While the Blue team begins its attack, the Red D25 runs out of the stands onto the field and back into the game.

14 GAME SCENARIO C The defending Green teams GK and D27 are both standing on the goal-line during an attack on goal by the Orange team. The momentum of one of the Oranges attackers, A33, carries him over the goal-line and off the field of play. After Orange A4 takes a shot, which rebounds off the goalpost, Orange A33 runs back onto the field, collects the rebound and then he takes a shot on goal. While taking the shot on goal Orange A33 is violently pushed by Green defender D9, but the shot goes into the goal anyway.

15 GAME SCENARIO D The defending Green teams GK and D18 are both standing on the goal-line during an attack on goal by the Red team. One of the Red attackers, A17, steps off the field of play to avoid the possibility of being called offside. After Red A54 takes a shot, which rebounds off the goalpost, Red A17 runs back onto the field, collects the rebound and then he takes a shot on goal. While taking the shot on goal Red A17 is violently pushed by Green defender D39, but the shot goes into the goal anyway.

16 GAME SCENARIO E On a shot on goal by A22 on the Red team, player D16, who is a defender on the White team, jumps up and grabs the crossbar of the goal. While hanging from the crossbar, he chests the ball away and prevents a sure goal. How should the referee proceed?

17 GAME SCENARIO F During play the GK is obviously incapacitated (but not seriously injured) and is well away from the play. How should the referee proceed?
