BELIEVE IT OR NOT, rocks are continuously being formed on the ocean floor at Mid-Ocean ridges.
These lava pillows were recently formed near the Hawaiian Island They are some of the youngest rocks on the surface of the Earth!

New rocks are also formed on land as lava cools from volcanoes.

The Shield rocks range from 570 million years old to 3.5 billion years old and are the oldest rocks on our continents. They have floated on Earth’s mantle for a long time without being subducted back into the mantle.
