4 Bellringer Explain why oceans are an important influence on the world’s weather.

5 Bellringer The oceans receive and absorb a large portion of the sun’s energy. This energy raises the temperature of the oceans, which influences the atmosphere. Ocean currents carry warm water to colder areas, affecting local climates.

6 Bellringer Solar energy evaporates an enormous amount of ocean water, which eventually returns to the Earth as precipitation.
