Teacher Assessment English writing, speaking and listening will be assessed throughout the year, alongside maths. Final assessment will be the teachers judgement.

Reading Tests Paper 1 consists of a selection of texts totalling 400 to 700 words, with questions interspersed Paper 2 comprises of a reading booklet of a selection of passages totalling words. Each paper is worth 50 percent of the marks and should take 30 minutes each. Children will not be strictly timed as the test isn't designed to assess children's ability to work at speed. The test will get progressively more difficult toward the end and will cover a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. There will be a variety of question types, such as: - Multiple choice - Ordering (e.g. number the events below to show the order they happened in the story) - Labelling - Find and copy - Short answer (e.g. What does the bear eat?) - Open – ended answers (e.g. Why did Lucy write the letter to her grandmother? Give two reasons).

Maths Tests Paper 1 is arithmetic and worth 25 marks. It should take around 15 minutes to complete, but children are not timed, again. Paper 2 focuses on mathematical fluency, problem solving and reasoning. It is worth 35 marks and should take 35 minutes to complete. There will be a variety of question types, such as: - Multiple choice - Matching - True/ false - Constrained ( e.g. completing a chart, table or drawing a shape) -Short answers explaining methods.

What can you do to help? Reassure your child there is nothing to worry about Children already familiar with question format through subtle teaching ( we do an arithmetic practise every day in this format and weekly reading comprehension lessons follow similar questions) so don’t need to revise Will be sending home practice papers for you to work through together with your child as Easter homework and have included a pack with a reading and arithmetic practise in (please ask your child’s teacher if you would like more)
14
What can you do to help? Read together every day and ask questions about the story (school and books of their choice from home) Get your child to read two or three pages of text and then ask them questions Talk to them about the story, characters and main events. Look up new words and discuss what phrases might mean Practise the 2, 5 and 10 times table with your child and number bonds to 20 Ask your child addition and subtraction questions when you are walking somewhere or have a spare minute Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc. Continue to work on targets discussed or given at parents evening.
