1 More Chemical Conversions!!!

2 Chemical Formulas as Conversion Factors
Example: How many leaves are on 14 clovers? What do we know? Each clover has 3 leaves, therefore our conversion factor is 1 clover = 3 leaves Similarly, a chemical formula tells us equivalences between elements in a compound

3 Converting between Moles of Compounds & Elements
Example: How many moles of O are in 18 moles of CO2? Conversion factor 2 mol of 0 = 1 mol of CO2 Your Turn: How many moles of O are in 1.7 mol of CaCO3? 5.1 mol O

4 Converting between Grams of a Compound & Element
Example: We have 15 g of NaCl. How many grams of Na do we have? Conversion factor: 1 mol NaCl = g NaCl 1 mol NaCl = 1 mol Na 1 mol Na = 23 g Na

5 Converting between Grams of a Compound & Element
Your Turn: Carvone (C10H14O) is the main component of spearmint oil. Find the mass of carbon in g of carvone. 44.3 g C
