2 Guile N. Crafty or artful deception, the use of tricks to deceive someone Odysseus demonstrated his guile when he created the Trojan Horse plan.

3 Succumb V. to give way to superior force; yield: to yield to disease, wounds, old age, etc.; die. Many would have succumbed to despair, but Penelope remained faithful and optimistic that Odysseus would return.

4 Adversity N. a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress
Odysseus faced adversity on his journey home from Troy.

5 Blanched V. To turn white or become pale
Blanched with terror, Odysseus’ crew began to panic as they faced Skylla.

6 Ruse N. a trick, stratagems
Odysseus’s ruse to blind Polyphemos was successful!
