4 Functions of Housing To meet the Emotional Needs of:
A Sense of Belonging – a place to unwind and be yourself. Privacy – a place of your own to have your personal belongings

5 Functions of Housing Individuality – express your personality
Values and Goals – reflects what is important to you.

6 Functions of Housing To provide for the Social Needs of:
Space for activities – a place for cooking, bathing, entertaining, working, exercising and talking.

Single Adult going to college – a dorm room or an apartment getting a job – an apartment by oneself or with a roommate (efficiency, one 0r two bedroom)

Beginning Stage Married Couple – No Kids An apartment – one or two bedroom-rent Purchase a small starter home – two bedroom Purchase a condominium or cooperative apartment

Aging Stage From time of retirement until death of both spouses May move to a smaller home or a retirement community

May need assisted living to help with daily routines Some stay in present home, so as to have room when children come to visit
