1 Algebra 1 Chapter 4 Functions
Cassandra Blackshear November 28th, 2011 3rd Hour

2 Relations A relation is a set of ordered pairs.
Examples of how relations can be expressed are in a graph, table, mapping, and coordinates.

3 What makes a relation a function?
What makes a relation a function is when it passes the vertical line test on a graph. Which means when the line does not pass the x-axis more than once. On a table if the x-axis numbers are not repeated it is a function.

4 What is the domain and range of a function?
The domain of a function is the set of x-coordinates. The range of a function is the set of y-coordinates.

5 Real World Example of A Function
A real world example of a function would be Kaitlyn is renting a car while she is staying in North Carolina. The car costs $200 upfront and $50 per day she keeps the car. Kaitlyn is staying in North Carolina for 6 days.

6 Function Rule F(x)= 250x+25 Domain: (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, . . .)
Range: (275, 300, 325, 350, 375, . . .)
