No Is light matter? Does it have a mass? Does it have volume?
Does it have density? Is it made up of particles? No No No No Light is a form of radiation, which carries energy. There are several properties of light we need to understand:
2
1. Light is visible We can see some types of light because our eyes have special cells that allow us to detect light rays.
3
2. Light comes from natural and artificial sources.
Example of a natural light source: Example of an artificial light source:

3. Light travels very very very very very very fast
How long would it take you to drive from school to the sun, if there were a road you could take there? About 172 years How long does it take light from the sun to reach Earth? 8 minutes

3. Light travels very very very very very very fast
Speed of a car on the highway: Speed of you, running in Phys. Ed: Speed of light 100 km/hr 20 km/hr km/s Light is the fastest thing in the universe

4. Light carries energy Light doesn’t just brighten an area, it can also warm it up.
8
5. Light travels in a straight line.
Light cannot go around an object. The object will create a shadow.
9
6. White light is a mixture of different coloured lights
Glass prisms and raindrops can separate this light into all the different colours.
10
7. When light hits an object…
Some light is absorbed by the object. Some light is reflected in a straight line. Some things do a better job of absorbing and others do a better job of reflecting light.
11
How colour works… We don’t see objects… we see light bouncing off of objects
