Orientation Before you arrived – through seminars, individual orientation or on-line you may have learnt about Rotary. How many have been told about Rotary and the scholarships?

4 Orientation Now you have arrived in Great Britain & Ireland we would like you to study hard, but we’d also like you to have a good time. Take the opportunity to learn about the varied cultures and social aspects of your chosen place of study. Rotarians are friendly people and will give you the chance to make new friendships.

5 A short history lesson! Rotary started in Chicago in 1905.
Rotary arrived in the British Isles in 1911. The Rotary Foundation, our charity, was started in 1917. In 1947 our Foundation began awarding Scholarships

6 Scholarships Global Grants District Grants
Study must follow one of the 6 areas of focus. Implies a long term commitment to measurable, sustainable, change. District Grants More flexible for the student and sponsors to design the scholarship.

7 The Six Areas of Focus Peace and Conflict Resolution / Prevention
Disease Prevention and Treatment Water and Sanitation Maternal and Child Health Basic Education and Literacy Economic and Community Development

8 Who pays for the Scholarships?
Individual Rotarian personal contributions and fund-raising activities paid to The Rotary Foundation. Managed through The Rotary Foundation for the benefit of both educational and humanitarian projects.

9 Host Counsellors – a unique feature of our scholarships
A primary point of contact. Your first meeting is important. Maximise the opportunity this support can offer.

10 Reporting Both host and international sponsors are both responsible for reporting the use of scholarships. Your progress reports must be submitted within 12 months of receiving the first grant payment. Your final reports must be submitted within 2 months after the end of the scholarship period.
