1 Physical Science SPS 9: Properties of Waves (part 1)
A wave does not move matter. What does it actually move? What are the two types of waves? Draw and label the two types of waves. (ex. crest, trough, amplitude, compression, rarefaction)

2 1. A wave does not move matter. What does it actually move?
Answer: Waves transfer energy only. Particles of matter stay in the same location.

3 2. What are the two types of waves?
Answer: Transverse…the particles move perpendicular to the motion of the wave. Longitudinal…the particles move parallel to the motion of the wave.

4 3. Draw and label the two types of waves.
Answer: Transverse waves Longitudinal

5 Answers: Wavelength is the distance between two consecutive wave crests or two consecutive wave troughs. Wave period measures the time it takes for one complete wave to pass a certain point. Wave frequency measures how many waves occur in one second.

6 Physical Science SPS 9: Properties of Waves (part 2)
What does wavelength measure? What does wave period measure? What does wave frequency measure?
