Bellringer: May 20 You should have both Reagan’s speech and Sagan’s speech analyzed. In your notes: Record what Reagan’s main argument is and what his main reasons to support this argument are. Record what Sagan’s main argument is and what his main reasons to support this argument are.

Today’s task First – compare and contrast Reagan and Sagan’s use of logos and pathos and their ethos. Use the chart I have provided, although if the boxes aren’t big enough, create your own chart which does the same exact function. Decide who is more effective (based on their ethos and their use of logos and pathos) (Keep your personal opinion about their argument to the side.

Today’s task continued
Then, write an essay. Your thesis will answer the question of who is more effective – Reagan or Sagan. You will then compare and contrast the two speeches, demonstrating throughout evidence from both speeches. If you finish it today, turn in everything (chart, essay, scoring guide). If you don’t finish it today, turn in everything on May 22. (Friday. Yes, we have class)

Ticket out On the back of this handout, write down who you find to be more effective and a brief explanation why. You will submit this handout with your ticket out on the back and I will give you a grade based on your brief explanation. I’m looking to see that your opinion is based off of more than just glaring generalities, but their use of logos and pathos or their ethos.
