3 Bellringer On the back of your Dynasty chart, create a chart that shaped like a large T. At the top, put the word “positive” and “negative”. Read pg 225 “China’s Geography”.

6 Where are we going? China is in East Asia
Today, it is the most populated country in the world… over a billion people live there. Its capital is called Beijing It is a communist government… one social class of people

7 Map China’s geography is very diverse
Desert to the North called the Gobi Mountains to the west.. The Himalayas and Altay Seas to the East and South… East China, Yellow and South China Most early people lived near the Huang He or Yellow River

8 Bellringer Name 3 important ways China was isolated from the rest of the world in ancient times.

9 Boundaries Because of so many geographical boundaries, do you think china had contact with other groups? No, because they were geographically isolated. This means their geography kept them from communicating with others.

10 Government China has always been ruled by dynasties
The first dynasty was called the Shang The kings of the Shang had a four class system of grouping They had warlords or military rulers to rule different districts. Most people were traders and farmers

11 The Zhou (Joe) The Zhou created a bureaucracy or divided government into different departments Kings were considered linked between heaven and earth Divided kingdom into territories

12 The Qin ( Chin) A dynasty that had only one ruler: Qin Huangdi
He was a cruel ruler that forced people to work for him. Built the Great Wall of China Hated by his people b/c of his treatment

13 The Han Created a way of getting government jobs by giving a test of knowledge (civil service exams) Expanded the land into a empire Han rule was a time of growth and invention

14 Bellringer Identify one way the Shang Dynasty was different from the Zhou Dynasty in terms of the way each ruled. This should be written as a short paragraph. It should have a main idea and details that support it. It will be taken up as a daily grade. You can use your organizer for reference.

It is the way the Chinese determined the right dynasty to rule Ruling dynasties claim the Mandate of Heaven or the divine right to rule according to the Gods Called the dynastic cycle b/c dynasty go through cycles of good rule going bad
