History of cells Robert Hooke discovered cells in the mid 1600s while observing cork under a microscope. He stated that they looked like tiny rows of boxes which he called cells.

Theodor Schwann & Matthias Schleiden contributed that “ all living things are made of cells” Rudolf Virchow said that “all cells come from cells”
