3 Mission Statement Our mission is to provide a joyful learning environment that empowers children to reach their full educational potential while nurturing self-esteem and respect for others. We believe learning is maximized when it takes place in an environment enriched with support, encouragement and assistance. French Camp School is a K-8 school within the Manteca Unified School District serving a population of 680 students.

A Program Improvement school is one that has not made adequate yearly progress for two consecutive years. Under adequate yearly progress (AYP) criteria adopted by the State Board of Education, California districts, schools, and numerically significant student subgroups within districts and schools must do the following: • Meet annual measurable objectives in reading/language arts and mathematics • Demonstrate a 95% participation rate on assessments in reading/language arts and mathematics • Demonstrate progress on the Academic Performance Index (API), which is an additional academic indicator for adequate yearly progress • For grades 9-12 only, demonstrate progress on the graduation rate of its students

10 The Changes After Becoming a Title 1 School
New administration team The previous teachers left and new Teams were set in Place. Each grade became a working team in the community of teachers. Weekly meetings with grade coaches and teams. School introduced Character Counts with students. The Changes After Becoming a Title 1 School

11 Character Counts It is the nation wide program designed to improve the character of todays youth.

12 Character Counts in the classroom and school wide
Character counts posters on each wall. Morning reading, the principle reads a famous quote that relates to a specific character. Students can earn tickets by doing good deeds, and going above and beyond in and out of the classroom Tickets are turned in each Friday for a weekly drawing for a prize. Monthly Assemblies Above and beyond students (All students will receive this award) Paper award, pencil, sit front row at the assembly, shake the principles hand and get a picture taken. 13 What is School Culture? School culture refers to the beliefs, norms and priorities that drive actions and thinking of people within a school community. Culture is put in place by the teaching staff, subordinate staff and students who are the stakeholders hence can be easily assimilated depending on the environment within which the school exists. Assimilation of a culture is never instantaneous but rather takes time for results to be seen.
