1 Electrical Energy Transmission to a Cabin
Created for CVCA Physics By Dick Heckathorn 16 March 2K + 5

2 The Problem Electricity energy is being transmitted on a wire of diameter 1.2 cm for a distance of 100 kilometers. It is being transmitted at the rate of 550 watts (Joules/sec). The wire has a total resistance of 16 ohms.

3 The Problem a. Find first the current and, secondly, the power loss when the potential difference between the two ends of the wire is 110 volts. What percent was lost?

4 The Problem b. Next, find the current and then the power loss when the potential difference between the two ends of the wire is 110,000 volts.

5 Current in Wires 110 Volts 110,000 Volts I = P/V
550 W / 100-V 550 W / 110,000-V 5 Amps Amps

6 Power Loss 110 Volts 110,000 Volts Ploss = I2 * R
(5-A)2 * 16-Ω (0.005-A)2 * 16-Ω 400 watts 4x10-4 watts

7 Percent Power Loss

8 power to be transmitted.
Power Equation 1 This power represents power to be transmitted.

9 This power represents power loss
