White southern colonists did not want African Americans serving in the military British offered freedom to any slave that fought for them Washington then allowed for African Americans to serve in Continental Army Why would it be a challenge for the colonists to allow black soldiers? Why would it be a challenge for African Americans to be in the military?

Why was keeping New York such an important task for both sides? Took army south from Canada to attack Continental Army Bogged down in swamps (early autumn so foliage was high) Surrounded by colonial forces all along the way What does this victory and those before it say about the American colonists?
