A cube has a side of 5 cm. It has a mass of 250 grams. The density of the cube is… a g/cm3 and will float in water

2. Oil floats on water. The most accurate reason for this is… a) oil is less dense than water b) oil is immiscible (does not dissolve) in water c) oil is both less dense and immiscible with water d) water is heavier than oil

3. To sum up yesterday’s lab…
The regular Coke is the only can that should have sunk
All other Cokes: Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke with Splenda…should have floated
This is because Coke is the only one with real sugar. When you use “fake” sugar you have to use a lot less. There is more sugar in the regular Coke, making in more dense than the others.

Feed, touch, or molest animals.
Have any sort of project involving vertebrates (animal with a spine)
Feed, feel, touch, taste, molest, kill, maim, tick off, or hurt people.
Make nuclear weapon models (this goes for bombs and firearms too)
Do experiments using poisons

7. How will I grade it? Poster Board = Test Grade Journal = 2 quiz grades
Research Paper = Test Grade
Paper Work = Test Grade
Model = Extra Credit 100 points to tests grades
Abstract = Extra Credit 100 points to quiz grades. If you are planning on being in the Hamilton Science Fair, this is required!
Be Warned! If you are in a group you will get a grade based on what your group turns in!

8. Today’s Agenda Before you leave today, you must:

I have final say on groups – NO CHANGES
Please be responsible in choosing your group – this is a VERY big percentage of your grade!
Begin brainstorming Science fair Ideas!
You must have 5 ideas you’re interested in by the time you leave class
Projects must be quantitative (quantity, hard data, numbers)
Must follow guidelines stated earlier
Follow your interests! Think about questions you would like to answer.
Projects must be approved by SRC

9. Getting Started!
If you’re going to do a group, visit your friendly neighborhood lab assistant and let them know who your partners will be. Wait in line quietly and patiently!
If you’re flying solo, come and let that lab assistant know!

11. Worksheet
On the worksheet start jotting down your ideas for the science fair on a separate sheet of paper. Pick your favorite one and write a paragraph on the worksheet about what you are think about doing. This will be due back to me by Tuesday. I will return next white Friday.
