2. Map of the Human Body Body Cavities
The body has 2 cavities that hold and protect the organs.
Dorsal Cavity- back of the body
Ventral Cavity- front of the body

3. Dorsal Cavities Is a posterior cavity
Is divided into 2 smaller cavities
Cranial Cavity- houses the brain
Spinal Cavity- contains the spinal column

4. Ventral Cavities Is an anterior cavity
Is divided into main, smaller cavities
1. Thoracic Cavity
a. contains the heart, lungs, and blood vessels
b. upper Cavity
2. Cavity
a. lower cavity contains the digestive
organs (stomach, intestines, liver etc.)
b. the lower cavity contains the called the pelvic cavity contains urinary and reproductive organs and last part of the large intestine.

5. Body Regions
The body has been divided into regions to help better understand body locations and to help with directional terms.
The abdominal region is outlines for you on page 33.
The remainder of them are on pages in your book.

7. Abdominal Quadrants
It is more practical for health professionals to divide the body into 4 quadrants.
This helps them when trying to locate abdominal pain.
There are 4 quadrants
RLQ- Right Lower Quadrant
LLQ- Left Lower Quadrant
RUQ- Right Upper Quadrant
LUQ- Left Upper Quadrant
