Spreadsheet Tools Concept Lesson
2
Objectives At the end of the lesson students will:
Explain the purpose of using a spreadsheet to solve problems within seconds Distinguish among cell, cell address, row and column that applies to a spreadsheet without errors Apply the addition and subtraction formula to complete worksheet with 100% accuracy
3
What is a Spreadsheet? An electronic document in which data is arranged in the rows and columns of a grid and can be manipulated and used in calculations.
4
What is the difference between rows and columns in a spreadsheet?
Column - is vertical, or goes up and down; Rows are horizontal, or side to side.
5
What is a Cell in spreadsheet?
Each box in the spreadsheet is called a cell. Each cell has its own reference label (cell address), named after the letter of the column and number of the row that it's positioned in.
6
Difference between Values and Labels in spreadsheet
Labels are text or numbers you type into a cell, while values are the results of calculations you view in a cell. Examples: If you type the word NAME in a cell, you will see NAME (label). If you type =6+4 in a cell, you will see 10 (value).
7
What is a formula in spreadsheet
Formulas are the bread and butter of spreadsheets. Without formulas, a spreadsheet would only contain a static never-changing set of numbers. Not exactly useful. A formula takes a set of values, usually from other cells, and carries out some maths on them. ALL Formulas starts with an equal sign ‘=‘ You can use Excel formulas for basic number crunching, such as addition or subtraction, as well as more complex calculations such as payroll deductions or a student's average on test results.
8
Complete the worksheet on computer
= B5 + C5 = E5- D5
