2 Samuel 5 Verse 1 “Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron.” Verse 3 – David anointed as king over Israel Verse 6 - David and his men go to the capital city of the Jebusites to conquer them.

2 Samuel 5:6-12 One of the keynotes to David’s life is the grace of God. Everywhere we look in David’s life we see grace.

The Jebusites Fierce and blood thirsty people Worshipped false gods Offered child sacrifices to their gods Deuteronomy 12:31 Practised sexual immorality and witchcraft.

Everything changed when David took over He renamed the city to Jerusalem City of peace. Psalm 87:3, “Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God!”

3. Opportunity for further growth
David soon started to expand it. He started in the centre around the city hall and then built all around it. Hiram, King of Tyre, recognised David’s growing power and influence and started to establish a relationship with him.

An important observation
Verse 10 “David became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.” Verse 12 “David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel. It was all because of grace!

Verses 13-15 David taking more concubines and wives.
While the grace of God works in the lives of His people, His work is never complete in this life.

You and me? Celebrate the mighty, conquering grace of God that has been at work in us and saved us! Comfort and consolation regarding our present situation.
