1 Fifth Grade Curriculum Night September 14, 2016
Bradford Woods Fifth Grade Curriculum Night September 14, 2016

2 Math Instruction Grouping criteria included:
Math achievement scores Fourth grade end of book test Basic facts Student attributes Both the total points and number of students determine the grouping.

3 Math Instruction All students will receive the same curriculum.
In grades 3, 4, and 5, there are Academic I groups and Academic II groups. Each Academic I group is a heterogeneous mix. The difference between Academic I and Academic II is the pace and/or depth of the curriculum.

4 New Mathematics Curriculum
We have updated the curriculum in grades K-8. Instruction will focus on inquiry-based methodology. Problem solving will be emphasized in all units. All Pennsylvania Core Standards for Mathematics will be addressed. GO MATH! will be our new textbook series. Each student will receive “mini-books” for all units. Students can write in their consumable books. There are new online resources that can be used at home for additional practice and reinforcement. (When presenting this slide, summarize the content in the bullets for your audience). 1st year of implementation New language to refer to math courses. In the past, math courses at the elementary level were called A1 and A2. In order to align with middle school, language has been changed to M4 and M3. Decisions for math placements in these courses is the same as it was – it is data driven and can change from year to year (A student in M3 this year can be a student in M4 next year) No student is at a disadvantage if in an M3 course. It’s the same curriculum, same resources, and the same content. Teachers are teaching to the curriculum with fidelity and following the same pacing guide throughout the district

5 GO MATH! Online Resources
