HISTORY (1) Built in six stages between 3000 and 1520 BCE:
Stage I ( BCE) Stage II ( BCE) Stage III ( BCE) Stage IV, V and VI ( BCE)

HISTORY (2) During transition from the Neolithic Period (New Stone Age) to the Bronze Age. Incomplete Stonehenge Roman periods, medieval periods and ground-digging. The name (probably) derives from the Saxon stan-hengen, meaning “stone hanging” or “gallows”.

STONEHENGE TODAY Very famous stone circle!
Visitors: a million people a year… Summer Solstice celebration 1986: designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
