Successful Christian Living
WATCH OUT FOR DECEPTION 2 Corinthians 11:3 (AMPC) 3 But [now] I am fearful, lest that even as the serpent beguiled Eve by his cunning, so your minds may be corrupted and seduced from wholehearted and sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 (NIV) 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

Ephesians 4:27 (NIV) 27 and do not give the devil a foothold.
A foothold = A secure position from which further progress may be made. When you give the devil a foothold into your life, he takes a stronghold. If you give Satan control of one little part of your life, he will soon take over the whole thing.

How does Satan get a foothold in your life?
1. THROUGH LYING Ephesians 4:25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another. Without openness and truth, there can only be disunity, disorder, and trouble in human community. When you believe the truth, the Holy Spirit can work in your life, but when you lie, you allow the devil to work in your life.

2. THROUGH ANGER Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: The devil wants us to be like him and have anger in our hearts. He knows if we do, we are causing our fellowship to be broken with God. We see anger and wrath displayed in all areas of our society.

3. THROUGH CORRUPT COMMUNICATION Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. If the devil can get us to think about sin, and then talk about sin, he will have an easier time tempting us to sin. When we talk freely about dirty things, it takes the edge off our convictions. We get accustomed to it, and soon our barriers are down and the enemy establishes strongholds.

4. THROUGH BITTERNESS AND WRATH Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. The Christian who has un-forgiveness in his or her heart gives the devil one of his strongest footholds in his or her life. Colossians 3:13 (NIV) 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
