2 Vocab #4 (Quiz: Fri. Feb. 21) Description: A careful listing of things that can be seen in an artwork. Opinion: Personal beliefs and impressions which may be true for one individual, but not for others. Fact: Things that are real. Subject Matter: Things represented in the artwork, such as figures and objects, as well as details about them such as size, distance, and color. Shading: Variations in the dark and light of colors.

Label page 11 Glue “Describing An Artwork” in Sketchbook Label page 12 Draw your shoe using only lines. No shading. Label page 13.

4 Line Practice In your sketchbook, using half the page:
At the top of the page, write your own definition of line. Use the next minute to create a pencil outline of a simple shape such as a purse, apple, tool, shoe, bottle, etc. Label page 14 Cut out and paste the “Visual Elements: Line” hand out on the other half of the same page.

5 Chapter 4 starts on page 26 Look at Figures 4-8, 4-9, 4-10.
What sort of lines do you see? Use one or two words to describe the characteristics (qualities) of lines used by the artists.
