THE FATHER ALMIGHTY
2
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He arose again from the dead…
3
…He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen.

Jesus revealed God as Father

“Our father is Abraham,” they replied
“Our father is Abraham,” they replied. “If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them, “you would do what Abraham did. But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You’re doing what your father does... CSB

We weren’t born of sexual immorality,” they said
...We weren’t born of sexual immorality,” they said. “We have one Father—God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and I am here. For I didn’t come on my own, but he sent me. Why don’t you understand what I say? Because you cannot listen to my word... CSB
8
...You are of your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:39–44 CSB
9
Why does it matter that we refer to God as Father?
10
Jesus denied the universal Fatherhood of God.
11
From one man he has made every nationality to live over the whole earth and has determined their appointed times and the boundaries of where they live. He did this so that they might seek God, and perhaps they might reach out and find him... CSB
12
though he is not far from each one of us
...though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also his offspring.’ Acts 17:26–28 CSB
13
We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. Ephesians 2:3 CSB
14
Why is understanding who you belong to important?
15
Through the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit, God becomes our Father.
16
Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, unless someone is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. How can anyone be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked him. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time and be born?” Jesus answered... CSB
17
...“Truly I tell you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Whatever is born of the flesh is flesh, and whatever is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:3–6 CSB
18
But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12–13 CSB
19
Therefore, God as Father, adopts us into his family.
20
For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons
For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!“... CSB
21
...The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8:14–17 CSB
22
“Abba” expresses warm affection and intimacy.
23
How does the understanding of God as “my Father” change how you approach him?
24
God the Father Almighty
25
What are some things that God cannot do?
26
Omnipotence means that God is always in control of everything and he rules over all.
27
With this understanding of God’s omnipotence, how do you answer the question, “Can God make a rock so big that he can’t lift it?”
28
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him, saying, “I am God Almighty. Live in my presence and be blameless. Genesis 17:1 CSB
29
When they moved, I heard the sound of their wings like the roar of a huge torrent, like the voice of the Almighty, and a sound of tumult like the noise of an army. When they stopped, they lowered their wings. Ezekiel 1:24 CSB
30
El Shaddai refers to God’s overpowering nature.
31
so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.” Isaiah 55:11 CSB
32
How has God demonstrated his all-mighty power in your life?
