Quickwrite: What are the nominative case pronouns? List them.
When do we use them in a sentence?
Hint – Are they used as the subject, direct object, etc. in the sentence?

3. Turn to page 668
Read the page (stop when you get the practice exercises) and write down the definition for the following terms:
Subject complement
Predicate noun (also called a predicate nominative)
Predicate adjective

4. Predicate nominative Ronnie will be the captain of the team.
What is the subject of the sentence?
What is the verb? Is it action or linking? (Is the subject DOING anything?)
If it is linking, does the noun that follows the verb rename the subject?
Ronnie = captain

5. Predicate pronoun The two winners are they.
Ask yourself the same questions for predicate nominative.
If it is a pronoun, use a nominative case pronoun.
Winners = they.

6. Predicate adjective The flight to Houston was swift.
Again, find the subject and verb.
Determine if it is an action or linking verb.
Is it an adjective that follows the linking verb?
Does it describe the subject?
How was the flight? It is swift.
