Greater purpose of Israel: A Spiritual Shadow - Of the Covenant of Faith and Grace - Of the seed of Adam God’s ETERNAL purpose was an Israel of Spirit - Ephesians 3:10-11 Therefore, God’s purpose did not fail Eph 3:10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,

God’s Purpose for Israel:
To bring forth the Messiah To establish the oracles of God (3:2) To make His Divine Nature clear - Judgment Therefore, Israel’s failure was forecasted - “Jacob I have loved, Esau I hated”

Was God Unfair? No, because: 1. God will have mercy on whom He desires - God WILL have mercy on some in Israel - God’s desire is that they are in Christ

No, because: 1. God will have mercy on whom He desires 2. God does not judge ALL in Israel for Israel - God does not hold all guilty for some - God eternally judges individually - Romans 2:6-8 Ro 2:6 who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: 7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; 8 but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.

Ro 2:9 There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek, Ro 2:10 but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Back to God’s Purpose God’s desire from the beginning was total salvation - That all men might be saved - The testimony of the prophets agreed The only way it was justification by faith - Yet Israel pursued justification by works of law

Summary of Romans 9 - God rejected Israel for their lack of faith - Except a remnant who had faith - God always sought a true Israel of faith Ro 3:26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Ro 11:32 For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all.
