Student Services Process for supporting Students Under 18 at point of enrolment
See also Safeguarding and Young People Policy Student Services School Accommodation Information Manager has access to ‘under 18’ infoview report (produced annually by Academic Services) (as soon as student has been ATRd*). Students making appointments for 1-1 services Academic Services Infoview report is available to schools Students aged under 18 at start of course are guaranteed a place in Halls provided they apply by the deadline. Residential Advisor contact shortly after move in date – invited to meet with team and inform about extra support if they require it. (NB most students do not attend or accept the support). Staff providing pastoral support are required to undergo a DBS check. Shared with Course leaders and personal tutors to be respond appropriately Steve Usher Other managers? FOH staff should check DOB for all students and alert the staff member if Student is under 18 The advisor/counsellor should check this as part of pre-interview checking and ensure any risks are mitigated. Responsibilities are outlined in the policy linked above SSGTs to contact under 18s to introduce self, offer support and ensure student knows where to access support. Also inform course leaders Manager to arrange DBS checks for staff as relevant and inform staff of local policies as required Issues or concerns contact Martin Barr Things to be aware of: Not to be alone with a student Not to arrange social with alcohol SSGTS to periodically touch base with students especially those likely to be on placement It may be prudent to inform Personal Tutor *‘Registry reports>Student reports called Under 18 at start of course (The value of the <Age at start> field on STU is actually the age at 1st August in student’s year of entry, but there’s some conditional formatting in the report to identify those with 18th birthdays between then and the start of the course.)
