What is the molar mass of water?
WARM-UP 11/4/13 What is the molar mass of water? If a glass contained 14.2g of water, how many moles is that? How many molecules of water are in the glass? Share answers with a neighbor.

What is the molar mass of water? 18.015g/mol
WARM-UP 11/4/13 What is the molar mass of water? g/mol If a glass contained 14.2g of water, how many moles is that? 0.788mol How many molecules of water are in the glass? 4.75 x 1023 molecules
3
11/4/13 Objective Determine the identity of unknown elements and compounds by calculating molar mass.
4
11/4/13 Agenda -Mole Lab – Parts C and D -Debrief Lab
5
Mole Lab - Part D In the front are several unknown elements and compounds in beakers. Each group is to start with one beaker of an unknown. On the beaker is written the mass of the beaker and how many moles of the element/compound are contained in the beaker. Record this information in Data Table D. Determine the mass of the unknown and the beaker.
6
Mole Lab - Part D 4. After recording the mass of the beaker and the unknown, return it to the front and repeat with another beaker until you have done this for all of the unknowns. 5. If you are waiting for a beaker to measure, work on calculations on a separate sheet of paper and attach it to the lab sheet.
7
-Sodium chloride (NaCl)
Mole Lab - Part D Possible elements/compounds: -Sodium chloride (NaCl) -Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) -Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) -Sodium iodide (NaI) -Potassium iodide (KI) -Zinc (Zn) -Iron (Fe)
8
-Sodium chloride (NaCl)
Mole Lab - Part D What is the molar mass of each?? -Sodium chloride (NaCl) -Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) -Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) -Sodium iodide (NaI) -Potassium iodide (KI) -Zinc (Zn) -Iron (Fe)
