3. Plate Boundaries The Earth’s crust is not one solid piece.
The Earth is covered by tectonic plates.
There are three main plate boundaries.

Transform motion occurs where two plates slip past each other.
Transform motion creates strike-slip faults. Blocks of crust slide horizontally past each other, causing moderate, shallow earthquakes.

5. Subduction May 29, 2019 3 - Dynamic Crust
Continental Collisions: When two tectonic plates with continental crust collide, they buckle and thicken, pushing the continental crust upward.
Continetal/Oceaninc Collisions: When a tecton plate with oceanic crust, the oceaninc plate slides under the continental plate. The region where oceaic plates sink down into the asthenosphere is called a subduction zone.
Ocean/Oceanic Collisions: When two oceanic plates slides under the other, much as in a continental/oceanic collision.
