Graph the system of inequalities.
Warm Up 4.2 Write an equation of a parabola in vertex form that has a vertex of (Your birth month, Your birth year). Write an equation of a parabola in intercept form that has x-intercepts of the freezing point and boiling point of water (in oF) Graph the system of inequalities.
2
Write quadratic functions and models (4.10)
Unit 4: Quadratic Functions and Factoring Target 4.2 Write quadratic functions and models (4.10)
3
Match ‘em up! Vertex Form Standard Form Intercept Form
4
Write an equation of a parabola given...
1) the vertex and a point Vertex = (1, -2) Point = (3, 2)
5
Write an equation of a parabola given...
2) both zeros (intercepts) and a point Zeros = (-1, 0) and (4, 0) Point = (3, 2)
6
Write an equation of a parabola given...
3) any 3 points Points = (-1, -3), (0, -4), and (2, 6)

You can also use your calculator to find the equation of a parabola given 3 points. We will be performing a quadratic regression (following the same steps we used to perform a linear regression to find a line of best fit). Enter points in L1 and L2 (Select Stat, then Edit) Go to Stat, then the Calc menu. Select Option 5, QuadReg

A pumpkin tossing contest is held each year in Morton, Illinois, where people compete to see whose catapult will send pumpkins the farthest. One catapult launches pumpkins from 25 feet above the ground at a speed of 125 feet per second. The table shows the horizontal distances (in feet) the pumpkins travel when launched at different angles. Use a graphing calculator to find the best-fitting quadratic model for the data. Use your calculator to determine what angle you should use to get the maximum horizontal distance.
