Overview First produced in 1989, Dashwood wines consistently overdeliver on classic New Zealand wine styles: vibrancy, concentration and balance Fruit sourced from Marlborough’s two marquee sub regions: the Awatere and Wairau valleys Selecting Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir fruit from estate and grower vineyards to showcase the best of Marlborough A classic expression of each valley: vibrant fruit underpinned by body and intrigue Marlborough Dashwood is very much an intentional brand created and started by the Vavasour Family in 1989 to create a wine that encompasses the entire Marlborough region, as opposed to a private label or second tier brand created for the sake of shifting bulk juice Most Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc’s are fruit sourced 100% from the Wairau Valley, so having fruit from both AVA’s in the blend is a good point of difference

Best of Marlborough Dashwood wines capture the beauty and flavors of Marlborough’s two premier sub regions: the Wairau Valley and the Awatere Valley Named after the Dashwood Pass which connects the two valleys Rivers from both valleys flow into the Pacific, where the coastal pohutukawa flower on the label can be found blooming each December Like the iconic pohutukawa flower, Dashwood is an anticipated perennial favorite, consistently overdelivering Wairau Valley Awatere Valley

A Tale of Two Valleys The Wairau is the larger and more northern of the two valleys: wide, flat and alluvial First vineyards were planted in 1973 Fruit is tropical & vibrant, with immediate appeal to the senses Wairau Valley The Awatere is smaller, cooler, and drier than the Wairau Valley First vineyards were planted in 1985 Stretches inland from the sea, climbs toward the inland Kaikoura ranges Greater minerality & higher acid levels, highly concentrated berries with complex characteristics Awatere Valley

Vineyards Wines reflect the vibrancy and varied terroirs of our vineyards planted in the two valleys Both sub regions benefit from long, cool growing seasons Shallow, stony, free draining riverbed soils of the Wairau Valley produce fruit with tropical fruit flavors Greywacke soils (alluvial with silt and clay) in the river terraces of the Awatere Valley challenge the vines: fruit is highly perfumed and concentrated Blend varies by vintage, but majority is Awatere fruit

Sustainability All estate vineyards, all winemaking, and all bottling plants used to make Dashwood wines are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) Cover crops are planted to attract beneficial insects as well as to encourage nitrogen and other nutrients in the soil. Strict water management procedures in place to determine the least amount of water needed The Dashwood team is trained in pest and disease monitoring protocols Mowers dispense clippings under the vines to enhance organic matter in the soil

Winemaker Stu Marfell Dashwood wines are crafted by Chief Winemaker Stu Marfell, the New Zealand International Wine Show’s 2018 Winemaker of the Show Raised on a 2,000 acre farm in Marlborough close to Vavasour winery, nine-year-old Stu was at the winery for its first vintage in 1989, and later spent a back breaking school holiday planting Sauvignon Blanc vines in its vineyards – fruit with which he makes today’s wines. Stu became winemaker at Vavasour and Dashwood in 2007 after earning his degree in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand.
