Cecil Rhodes became rich from the Kimberly diamond fields which produced 90% of the world's diamonds at the time.

10. Benefits of Colonial Rule on Africa
People’s lives improved because hospitals and schools were built.
As a result, literacy rates improved and people lived longer.
Modern technology became available
African products such as diamonds and salt became valued all across the world.

11. Negative effects of Colonial Rule on Africa
Expansion was done with very little regard for the native people living there.
Colonizers did not take into consideration existing geographic or cultural boundaries. Populations that had earlier identified themselves as distinct, because of their cultural, ethnic, and/or religious heritage, had to unify.
The new colonial territories which had many ethnicities, cultures and religions were often controlled through violence.
Many people were denied their political, economic, social, and human rights.
Discrimination:
Imperialist laws distributed resources unequally
Didn't allow democratic governments
Prohibited participation in decisions
Westerners took advantage of Africa's resources and denied Africans government jobs in their own country.
