Lessons learnt from our Collaborators: Gaining knowledge and experience from XFEL/ CEA Saclay including proposals and feedback from the Medium Beta and High Beta prototypes XFEL - Eddie current scanning, Fabrication breakdown structure and Cleanroom training. CEA Saclay – Infrastructure (Cleanroom + HPR) and witness Medium Beta cavity testing MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616

Unique to STFC - Qualifying infrastructure: Cleanroom – required ISO standards, Procedures and Processes, Tooling, cavity re-work flow – QC steps. HPR – Confirm facility specifcation, Procedures and Processes, commissioning, QC steps. Vertical Test Facility – Commissioning, Procedures and processes – QC steps. STFC Infrastructure commissioning: High beta cavity prototypes available to STFC for infrastructure qualification - preferably 3 cavities? Dates TBC. MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616

Cavity Qualification: Ensuring the highest quality/traceability for procurement, fabrication and testing of the ESS High Beta cavities. QC steps to be determined between ESS/STFC/CEA. Nb Spec Eddy current scanning Testing Fabrication MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616

Data management: Determine the organisation of ‘External Quality Control’ Deliverables to ESS: What parameters/documentation ESS expects per cavity. Reporting structure – sign off (Inspection reports). Managing of Non Conformities (NCR) Industry – STFC – CEA – ESS Solving issues within an agreed timescale (fast Response) Final release of the cavity Acceptance tests Courtesy of INFN MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616

Acceptance levels with ESS and Collaborators Example from INFN: Level Cavity status Needed documents If Level reached One “Naked” cavity after mechanical fabrication Mechanical, RF, vacuum, visual documents Proceed to Level Two Two Cavity before He-tank integration Mechanical, RF, vacuum, Treatment documents & tank documents Proceed to Level Three Three Accessory assembly, last surface treatments, outer inspection document Treatment, vacuum, RF, transfer measurements documents Integrated cavity ready to be cold RF tested Four Cavity cold tested Documents relative to cold test results and in/out checks Cavity can be sent to CEA for string assembly Five Cavity accepted for string assembly Documents with incoming inspection at CEA Cavity final approval ESS to confirm Acceptance criteria at each major process operation MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616 Courtesy of INFN

Current status of QA System: Currently working with ESS and collaborators to determine parameters and data transfer system EDMS: ruled out (Cost + time) Word based docs (Fermilab) Alfresco: Planned to liaise with INFN MD Pendleton_QA/QC_Workshop_CEA_300616
