#1 How does Dahl feel about the invention of television? Explain using text evidence. #2 How does he exaggerate his claim? Give specific examples from the poem. Hyperbole- an exaggeration for effect example- I am so hungry I could eat a horse.

Dahl feels the invention of television has too many consequences for children. He feels we would be better off without it. “NEVER, NEVER let them near your television set”. “don’t install the idiotic thing at all.” He believes it “Kills the imagination dead.” Tots should be reading books and using their imagination. “Such wondrous, fine, fantastic tales..” TV is used as babysitter to entertain while parents. “They leave you free to cook the lunch, and wash the dishes in the sink--

“It rots the sense in the head!” “It kills imagination dead!” “It clogs and clutters up the mind!” “It makes a child so dull and blind” “His brain becomes as soft as cheese!” “His powers of thinking rust and freeze!” “And stare until their eyes pop out.”
