3 Wi-Fi Protected Access™
WPA became mandatory for all Wi-Fi certifications in September 2003 Two versions (same will be true for WPA2): WPA Personal – for the home WPA Enterprise – for the enterprise WPA2 Certification to start in September 2004 WPA2 = i features 18 month transition period until it becomese mandatory in all infrastructure and PC-centric products Seeing very strong member support for WPA2 Wi-Fi Alliance, 6/28/04 Bill Carney (Texas Instruments)

4 QoS Certification Next generation of Wi-Fi capable consumer electronics products need e QoS features to enable voice, video and other multimedia applications A number of products expected to enter market 2H’04 In response, the Wi-Fi Alliance has taken a leadership position to assist in the orderly introduction of QoS features into the market by initiating the first phase of Multimedia interoperability certification in September 2004, initially for what has been known as “WME” Additional QoS features will be certifiable for interoperability following completion of planned plugfests (i.e., HCCA, etc.…) and sufficient member product support of these features The Alliance is currently finalizing a high-level, consumer-friendly brand name for certified QoS features to be announced shortly Bill Carney (Texas Instruments)
