Learning Objective:
To explore human rights, equal rights and legal rights.

2. What are rights? A natural or legal entitlement to something.
Rights help define what is morally acceptable behaviour for people.
They are not WANTS, DESIRES, WISHES, DEMANDS, etc. What’s the difference?
There are 2 types
HUMAN RIGHTS
LEGAL RIGHTS

3. HUMAN RIGHTS Apply to everyone…. EVERYONE! Can’t be changed.
*Human Rights are only a legal right when they are protected and enforced through a country’s laws.

4. LEGAL RIGHTS Enforced through laws Apply to all citizens in a country
Can change over time
May or may not include human rights

5. The purpose of equal rights is to protect people from oppression and injustice.
Genocide injustice enslavement persecution prejudice intolerance conquest
Extension Task: What is the political significance of equal rights? What would the world be like without them?
