Equipment 1 x Clean dry paper clip 1 x Tissue paper 1 x Pencil with eraser 1 x Penny 1 x Pipette Water 1 x Bottle of food coloring 1 x Spoon 3 x different size straws (different diameters) Method Paper clip floating on water: Fill a bowl with water Try to make the paper clip float...not much luck, huh? Tear a piece of tissue paper GENTLY drop the tissue flat onto the surface of the water GENTLY place a dry paper clip flat onto the tissue (try not to touch the water or the tissue) Use the eraser end of the pencil to carefully poke the tissue (not the paper clip) until the tissue sinks. Water on a penny: Wash a penny in water Dry it with a paper towel. Place the penny on a flat surface. Use a pipette to draw water and, carefully, drop individual drops of water onto the flat surface of the penny. Keep track of the water drops as you add them, one at a time, until water runs over the edge of the penny Water and straws: Fill a beaker half with water. Add a few drops of dark food coloring. Use your spoon to mix the food coloring and the water until the liquid is all one color. Use scissors to trim your three straws so they are all the same length Practice holding all three straws in one hand. Make sure that they are each lined up the same. Place all three straws in the water, but don’t let them touch the bottom of the glass Count to thirty.
