Which of these starters are scary?
It was late at night and the sky was dark. Owls hooted. On a bright summer's day, two girls skipped along the road, laughing. The wind howled and the trees creaked. A moaning noise rose out of the forest. The old man was sleeping. Suddenly he heard a tap, tap, tapping noise on the window. Starter: Use worksheet - cut up story starters and sort into scary/not scary.

Use images to sort story into correct order
Use images to sort story into correct order. Stick on whiteboard in story mountain and rewrite story together using adjectives. Focus on scary story starters, how story mounts and scary adjectives. Pupils will then write stick pictures into books and write own version of the story. Use ‘Puppetpal’ if possible. Plenary - read stories to each other. Peer assessment - highlight adjectives used
