Sometimes you use adjectives to compare two or more people or things. There are two forms of adjectives used when comparing. Comparative Superlative

3 Comparative The comparative form is used when an adjective compares two things. Form the comparative by adding –er to most one-syllable and some two-syllable adjectives Example: The lion is heavier than the zebra.

4 Superlative The superlative form is used when an adjective compares more than two things. Form the superlative by adding –est to most adjectives. Example: The elephant is the heaviest animal in the jungle.

5 Comparative/Superlative
When you add er or est, the spelling of an adjective may change. Adjectives ending in e drop the final e. rare, rarer, rarest Adjectives ending in a consonant preceded by a single vowel double the consonant. flat, flatter, flattest Adjectives ending in y change the y to i. angry, angrier, angriest
