2 One American story Eddie Rickenbacker was Americas , most famous flying ace. He shot down 26 enemy planes

3 American troops enter the war
The 1st American troops arrived in France June 1917. The small force of 14,000 "yanks" would boost the morale Of the battle-weary allies . Almost  another year  Would pass before the bulk of the rest of troops  Would arrive.

4 American ships make a difference
German U-Boat attacks on supply ships were a serious threat to the Allies war effort. Rear Admiral Sims convinced the Allies to adopt a system of protection. In the convoy System, a heavy guard of destroyers escorted merchant ship across the Atlantic in groups. This quickly reduce the number of lost ships

5 Just in time Another American tactic helped protect the Allies from u-boat menace. In 1918, the Allies laid a barrier of 70,000 mines in the North Sea. With Russia out of the war, in March 1918 the Germans launched an offensive to end the war before the Americans could arrive. The Germans smashed through French lines near the Marne River and were within 50 miles of Paris. 1 Million fresh American Troops would be waiting.

6 Americans take cantigny
On May 28th, American soldiers attacked the French town of Cantigy. It was guarded by Germans troops. American troops blasted the Germans out of the town within a few hours. The American victory gave a lift to the Allies morale.

7 The yanks in battle At the battle of Chateau-Thierry,  Americans clashed with Germans troops out side of Paris. The US halted (stopped) German  At Belleau-wood, Americans battled German troops in a costly fight. The Turning point of the war was the 2nd Battle of the Marne.  In the summer of 1918,  In 3 days of heavy fighting 85,000 US troops helped the Allies halt the German advance 

8 On Sept. 26th 1918, marked the beginning of the final Meuse-Argonne offensive. Around 1.2 million US troops took part in a massive drive to push back the Germans. The wars final battle left 26,000 Americans dead. But by November, the Germans were retreating.

9 Alvin York, war hero Due to his religious beliefs, Yrok refuse to pick up a gun. But changed his mind.  In the 1918 Argonne Forest, York attacked German machine gunners, killing 25 of them and captured 125 Germans. 

10 The war comes to an end Over 100 African-American soldiers were also recognized for their battlefield valor. 2 all black units were recognized by the French with awards for combat fighting. Each day Germany knew they were loosing the War. More and more America troops landed. German General Ludendorff, advised his Government to seek an armistice
